Daylilies

I had some free time with the long weekend so I played with my water color paints.

We have the prettiest patch of daylilies growing by our mailbox...I'm not sure this painting does them justice! But it was fun to paint and just relax.

My Critic

In 4th grade our art teacher took us outside to draw a tree during class. I was excited about learning to draw so drew the best tree I could. Then I looked at the girl next to me and saw her picture. It was so perfect, and when I looked back at my own I saw all the mistakes I had made. My inner critic told me I could never draw and I didn't try again until just recently. This is the first tree I've tried to draw since 4th grade. It's still not perfect, but it's a start and now I'm hoping my critic will finally quit telling me "I can't..."

Lanterns seem to be showing up in a lot of my paintings lately. I took several pictures in Charleston, and this painting below was from one of them. Maybe it's because the Bible talks about lanterns and shinning a light into the world. Something just draws me to them when I see one. (this background was inspired by Pam Carriker)

Even my journal page has a lantern...above the door to the chapel. There's just something about them...
Speaking of a light...this little guy makes my day brighter each time I see him. I just love this adorable picture. He was so curious about my camera his head just kept getting closer and closer until...

and that's his finger trying to grab the camera. I guess he wanted to take a self picture. Here's my other favorite from the same day. I was trying to get a shot of him playing in his new bouncing chair, but...

he stopped and looked right at me! He's such a blessing...and I can't wait for grandson #2 coming soon!!
