I found out recently that I am a tetrachromat. If you never heard of it, you are not alone...neither had I until 2 weeks ago. My sister is one too! Our father was color blind and so is my son, which means I have 4 cone cells in my eyes instead of the usual 3. I wasn't sure if the extra cone was "turned on" as the websites said, but after looking at pictures and asking a few questions, I'm sure now it is! How I didn't know this for over 50 years is totally beyond me! I always wondered why pictures didn't look like what I saw, but it never occurred to me that it was my eyes that were different! Here is a quick sketch of the apple that started me thinking I see colors differently:
I'm noticing colors in a new way so I wonder if my paintings will change at all. Speaking of paintings, I sold three in the last couple of weeks too,(my sister bought 1 for herself and 2 for her friends!) along with 2 of my stamp sets! It's been a good start to the year! There are a few new paintings added and I'll be adding more stamp sets later this weekend.
God is so amazing! He has truly made each of us in a unique way!
You are unique and wonderful too!!!
I'm linking with Paint Party Friday and Sunday Sketches this week. I hope you will join me and see what other wonderful artists have been making! (links on the right)

My son has this and it's so interesting to see how he views the world. HPPF!
Lovely pieces! So how does it affect your colour vision? The apple looks normal to me...
Never heard of tetrachromat..there was this article recently (hope this isn't too long..but copy and paste) about a chap who has found a cure for colour blind -

Wow, Debbie, tetrachromal? The apple is beautiful and I really love the serenity in the angel.
Lovely work Debbie! Valerie
thank you all for your kind comments! eva, the apple i saw had orange in it and a color that a couple of friends at work could not see! oddly enough i drew it so softly that it doesn't show up much in the drawing I posted!
thank you ann for the website! I'll check it out!
lovely sketches and painting! Congrats on your sales too-happy PPF!
How would you know if "pictures did not look like what you saw"?
curious.
Lovely work!
hi lynn, cameras do not pick up the colors that i see, they only take a picture in the range that soneone with 3 cones would see. last week, i took a picture of my dark brown couch & asked my husband if the color looked right. he said yes, but it looked completely different then what i saw. my couch has shades of yellows that i see, but the camera does not pick up.
This is so interesting. Maybe you get MORE color than the rest of us then! A good thing!!! ;-)
Yes Lynn, I see more colors and more shades then others see. It's really made me stop and look closely at almost everything!
oh i just love that angel! yummy apple, too!
It's amazing what we live with as normal you adapted well the apple looks good to me

I'd never heard of this condition either. Wow. It will be interesting to see how your art is (or not) affected now that you know this. Regardless, I enjoy coming here to see what you've created. :)
Isn't it amazing how God works! He knew what beautiful art you would create with this eye condition!
